The Power of Rhetoric
My high school football coach, Paul Leahy, was 6’2’ three hundred pounds and had the voice of a heavy smoker. When he was mad, he would cuss like a sailor and when you did something right you felt as if you were on cloud nine. His presence alone was intimidating. I would base his speaking skills on ethos and pathos. Before games he could tap into your soul and get you psyched up before a game. We went to State our senior year and lost one game out of fifteen if that says anything. He made average players play good and good players play great. He became a very well respected person in the community. So, how was Ethos a part of Coach Leahy’s rhetoric?
