Anothercolddays Wrestling Column The State of the WWE

... With Chris Nowinski, the WWE have a prospect for the future. ... No matter what the WWE do with him, the fans are going to HATE HIM. ... Being a 10-year veteran, and in my opinion, the most talented big man in the WWE, it would be a waste of a very considerable talent to blow his first successful gimmick (remember Wrestlecrap classic, Isaac Yankem DDS? ... For the first time in god knows how long, I actually got into the main event of a WWE show (I used to go to bed before the finish, they were that bad). ...

Kevin Nash
What can I say about Kevin Nash that hasn’t already been said by thousands of WWE viewers the world over? ... A long friendship with the most powerful in the WWE, and we all know I’m not talking about Vinnie Mac. ... Sure, he has ‘the look’, and he has got some skill, he looks fluid in the ring (a slightly homo-erotic statement there), yet he just isn’t at the level the WWE has him at, when he is in the ring while HHH and Naitch are cutting promos, he looks like he is trying to impress someone, get on someone’s good side, he ends up coming over as the court jester to the Royal couple of Helmsley and Flair. Maybe the inclusion in the coming weeks of Mark Jindrak will give him someone to tag with, from recollection the two have quite similar appearances and styles, and they should make big money as a tag team, but not as part of Evolution, they just aren’t big enough in the wrestling world to make a big splash, especially in the shadow of HHH. ... Not because of the wrestling, the way Rico was clowning around, made me snort with laughter, my whole family were in the room while I was watching it (a rarity, me being the only person who doesn’t hate wrestling in my family) and they laughed their collective ass off. ... But I digress…
If I were King, Rosey and Jamal would be Tag Champeens (as Taz would say (I refuse to spell it the WWE way)). ... And being that the current trend in WWE TV, that when someone is too knackered to fight a good fight anymore, they become an ‘on-air personality’ (on the other hand, being too knackered to put on a good show seems to be a way into the main event – Steiner, Hogan, Nash etc. ... He is wasted on Raw, one of the best cruiserweights in the WWE, yet he is on the wrong show. ... Acting/wrestling, same shortfalls. ... This nepotism is what may end up killing my passion for wrestling, as his showing at Bad Blood proves, he is nowhere near as good as he used to be. ... I don’t think we do, I do think however that all the talent listed above (with perhaps the exception of the Dudleyz) have been under-used or misused by the WWE. ... Running as part of WWE, not against it would mean ECW could use the talent pick-pocketed in the past, and not have to worry about being ‘too extreme’ for the competition, because there really is no competition. Also, speaking of competition, ECW could act as the WWE’s answer to the NWA-TNA X-Division title. The X-title has lost its way since its inception, and by bringing back an alternative, the WWE could capitalise on the interest the X-Title incurred. ... Bring back that UT, it fits with the WWE’s current trend of bringing back old stars for cameos or permanent places (Hogan, Piper, Sable). When the WWE put out the videos for his return at the Royal Rumble, crowds and fans at home were marking out when they thought he might be returning as the Man from the Darkside. How long has he been in wrestling now anyway? ... Now, I remember back in WCW, looking at this little fella (I indulge in calling wrestlers little fellas because I am 6ft5, and therefore am bigger than most of the WWE Roster) and thinking “He could be the next Benoit”. ...

Tazz
If you have read my column on Raw, you will know my views on EC-Dub, seen as Tazz has pretty much retired from active wrestling, he could go over to the ECW show on a Saturday night and serve as either a colour commentator, which he is ok at I suppose, but he has such a powerful on screen presence, he could play the part of commissioner or something similar, to complement Wrestling’s Mad Scientist, Paul E Heyman (Taz spent a lot of time in ECW as a heel, rubbing up against Heyman, this could be brought back to life in some way for the new show). At the moment he is wasted on Smackdown, he could do much better work if he was given a more prominent role somewhere else on WWE television. ... The most prolific title holder in WWE history, Crash held the HC title about 20 times, he held the tag titles twice, I think (I’m writing on a laptop in France, so I can’t check). ... Them, and the rest, all of whom are either hugely charismatic, or are super-skilled in some form of lightweight wrestling. ... We would like to see some technical and aerial wrestling.
