1 According to Zipe's article, "Breaking the Disney Spell," fairy tales, in general, changed in theme and audience over the years. It began as an oral tradition to create a community and sense of mission. When fairy tales were translated and written down they produced ideas of elitism and lost the harsh, real cautionary message of oral fairy tales. Also, as fairy tales became more elitist, they reinforced the patriarchal system.
