Crossing Over Three long years had gone by, and nothing had changed. My individual stats were high, but the team scores were low. The thought of going through another 1-9 season made my skin crawl. Nothing was going well, and I had high hopes of becoming a division 1A college athlete. It was time to get serious about my future. I was tired of debating whether I should continue my high school career at Casa Roble or make a dramatic change. I had the choice to play for the Del Campo High School football team. Their performance on the field was sure to be promising due to their records from the years before. I remember my dad telling me, “ Brent, do what you feel is right.” At that point I didn’t really know what was right, but I knew in my heart what I had to do. It was the first game of the season and I had made the switch from Casa to Del Campo. I was physically psyched for the game, but mentally and emotionally I was worn out from the controversy that had taken place during my transfer. One newspaper quoted, “ Brent should be shown as an example for those who transfer schools for sports related reasons. He should be benched for the season.” If I could have predicted the future, I would have never thought this situation would be blown out of proportion.
