Zimbabwe has been in a very torrid situation since Robert Mugabe came to power; most of the lower classes are starving with food riots in the major cities, Harare and Bulawayo for example. This combined with the growing violence of the supporters of Mugabe’s regime, has made Zimbabwe a very dangerous place. ... This in my view is a problem, however it must be remembered that English players are going there to play cricket – not to show their support for a dictator. Consequently, this trip could help highlight the terrible problems faced by the Zimbabwean people and it could bring much needed revenue to the country that is in current economical plight, for example in the form of media coverage, investments and infrastructure.
