Identify And Explain How Lifestyle Factors May Affect The Individuals Sporting Performance.
The two people selected in this topic, the seventeen year old school leaver and the 30 year old male, will have a contrasting sporting performance, this is evident due to the individual’s lifestyle. The 30 year old male (whom we shall refer to as “Geoffrey”) is clearly going to have a lower performance level than the seventeen year old (whom we shall refer to as Jamie), this is clear as Geoffrey drinks a higher quantity of alcohol, he consumes alcohol on approximately three to four times a week whereas Jamie drinks more moderately on a basis of perhaps once or twice a week. Alcohol is proven to affect a sporting performance whilst it is still in the system, it has a number of short and long term effects for example;
Short Term Effects: Alcohol impairs the nervous system and slows the conduction of nerve impulses. ... Also blood vessels in the skin dilate and heat is lost, which may cause chilling, which undoubtedly would affect an individuals sporting performance, because if they are not feeling one-hundred percent the individual cannot perform to the very best of there ability. ...
Geoffrey and Jamie also smoke, which again has a negative effect on a persons performance in sport, Geoffrey consumes a far greater amount of cigarettes than Jamie in a week, but both individuals will be effected by this whilst carrying out there chosen sport, smoking reduces resistance of the lungs to disease and often causes cancer, smoking results in coughing (Smokers cough), sore throat, shortness of breath which will effect am individual if they are taking part in team sports such as football or rugby, as running for a long periods of time is required and being able to breathe easily is vital to allow enough oxygen into the body, at rest you take in enough oxygen to keep you alive.
