Ice Skating 101
Ice hockey is one of the most aggressive, and somewhat grueling, sports both physically and mentally. It takes a great amount of techniques, skills, strength, stamina, and determination to become a competent player. Hockey is a game of weaving, cutting, curving, and changing direction. In order to master these abilities, there are many techniques such as balancing, forward and backward strides, forward and backward crossovers, C-cuts, turning, sudden stops, and explosive starts, etc for one to learn and practice. In this paper, I would like to take a NHL game as an example to illustrate and to review some of the skills and techniques, which these professional players use.
