Magic and Religion

It is apparent that religion and magic realism encompasses almost every character in The Grass Dancer by Susan Powers and also plays a parallel role. Main characters in the book have to battle between the Western World’s religion, Christianity, and their own religion. Although some people do convert religions, it is the Dakota religion that appears more meaningful to its people. The entire religion concept begins with Red Dress, a Sioux that, even after her death, has been with her people. ... And her own religion saved her. Magic realism directed her to stay with her people and guide them. Without Christianity , Red Dress and magic realism, the Dakota people would not have a way of guidance and peace.
