Physical Education Comparative Studies Essay (A2)

Introduction Some people say that sport, for example football, is “the same all round the world” this however is not entirely true. While the rules will be largely identical, at the end of the day all sport will always reflect the culture in which it is being participated in. a good example of this is seen by looking at the two extremes of a spectrum. At one end of that spectrum children playing football in the western world, would in the majority of cases have the necessary equipment, and kit. For the majority this is not the case in the third world, where goals will be made of whatever equipment available. This example highlights how while the rules of the game are the same the motivation for playing and opportunity available are so very different. Having established the obvious differences between how the game is played in the developed world and the third world, are there any differences between football in the United Kingdom, France, and United States? The answer is of course yes. In this essay I am gong to explore the following areas of each sport : Ø Structure Ø Programmes for elite / talented Ø Talent development Ø Grass roots Ø Any other interesting areas I have researched. U.K If we start in the United Kingdom, this is where it all started. From footballs humble origins, where the game was first introduced in English public schools, it has spread into the global phenomenon that it is today. You would think because of this that the English national side would be up there competing with the rest at international level.
