Penn 1

Hi, my name is Penn 1. I was born in a manufacturing plant in Phoenix, Arizona. I am made up of only two different materials. On the outside I have felt that protects me from the dirt and the bruises I get. My core is made up of a rubber substance. Currently, I am America’s #1 selling ball and the official ball of USA League Tennis. My color is lime green and I have black letters and numbers showing my name to everyone. The surface where I perform my best on is hard courts. But enough about my physical description, I’m going to tell about my first experience in a Grand Slam final. It was last week in Flushing Meadows, New York City, and site of the 2003 U.S. Open. All week long I was packaged, waiting for my chance to be used in such a magical place. I waited for thirteen days, still packaged away and eager to be used. Day 14, which was the last day of the U.S. Open and is the day when the Men’s Singles Final takes place, was when I heard some of the ball boys in the next room talk about which balls to use. I could see the chairman of the tournament coming into the room where thousands of tennis balls are located. He reached into my box, but grabbed the can next to me. He looked at it carefully and noticed that those balls weren’t up to par, so he put them back and grabbed the can I was in.
