“The Achievement of Desire” In Richard Rodriguez’s story, “The Achievement of Desire,” I found it very interesting the way the author describes his life. He uses the word “scholarship boy” to describe the type of student he was. However, while we often associate a “scholarship boy” with a good student, Rodriguez explains his want to learn more and more throughout most of the excerpt, but by finally asserts that he was not a “good student” but rather one who could reiterate themes and concepts.
