Joseph Jefferson Jackson was born on 1888 in Pickens County, South Carolina. Joe was the oldest of his family with five brothers and two sisters and his parents George and Martha Jackson. When Joe was six years old he went to work in textile a mill called Brandon Mill in Greenville, SC. When Joe was 13 he played on a Brandon Mill baseball team. When Joe was 18 he went to a semipro team with the Greenville Near Leaguers.
