The novel Warriors Don’t Cry, written by Melba Pattillo Beals, tells the story of nine African American teenagers, one of which was Melba, who integrated an all-white high school in Little Rock, Arkansas. The school was Central High School, but because of its location in Arkansas the majority of the population were white racists, and thus the black students were unwelcome.
