As soon as we are born into the world, we experience different kind’s of people, places, objects, symbols, and events. In time some of these things can develop over time into our personal icons in life. Michael Jordan has become an icon to many people because of his talents in the game of Basketball. Michael Jordan is a professional Basketball player. Jordan is “6,6” and was born February 17, 1963 ( Geocites.) He was drafted in the first round by the Chicago Bulls in 1984 (Andrews). Jordan has been playing basketball since he was in middle school; however Jordan was cut from his Laney high school team as a freshman ( Andrews.) Eventually Jordan improved his skills and went on to play at The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill wearing the popular well known number twenty-three. Now Michael Jordan has become one of the most well known icons in the game of basketball. In national sporting events such as basketball, if someone plays the game well and stands out from the rest of the crowd the media will start to give the individual a certain image as long as the individual stays as out of the eye of trouble. Michael Jordan has become one of those individuals. Jordan also has become a positive role model to young potential basketball players. He gives many a reason to keep trying to pursue their dreams even if they are cut from there basketball team because he to was cut from the team. That alone is reason enough to become an icon as well as a hero. Jordan also keeps a clean criminal record which inspires some to stay out of trouble ( LaFebel.) Jordan also shows sportsman like conduct on and off the court, and he also displays team sportsmanship in the media as well, which only makes his positive publicity as a icon become even stronger.
