Avoid Prolonged Driving on the Information Highway The internet provides people with many things, Stress relief from a long day, Conversation with people around the world, Information that may be otherwise unobtainable, mindless entertainment amongst other things. While there are many upsides and advantages to “surfing the net”, there is another side that leads to pain, suffering, grief and ultimately the destruction of lives. This destruction can come in many forms but for now, we are going to take a look at the typical internet addict and what might cause someone to become such. Internet addiction is a very real disease that is as destructive in a persons life in the same way a substance addiction can be and like substance abuse. There are many causes. Three examples are, The use of the internet to feed an alternate addiction such as pornography or gambling, A need or desire to find others that are like themselves or have similar interests, in a “safe” environment, and finally the ease in which someone can find something otherwise unobtainable.
