Hardware Components

There are twelve hardware components to make a computer system work these include:

Component
Motherboard
Processor
RAM
Hard drive
Power supply
CD ROM
Floppy drive
Monitor
Keyboard
Graphics card
Soundcard
Mouse
Above are all the necessary hardware components for a pc to function correctly. I researched all these components from a website called

Detailed description of each hardware component

Motherboard
The motherboard is the most fundamental part of most computers and has been for nearly 20 years. “The motherboard is the data and power infrastructure for the entire computer. ... All layers are insulated and manufactured into one complete complex sandwich and chip and other components are then soldered into position on the motherboard. ... In theory the greater the data bus the more information can flow through so the faster the computer will be. ...

“Recent motherboard designs include additional chips to support USB, sound card, video adapter, computer host and network adapter. ... People considered this as an amazing accomplishment considering prior to the 4004 engineers built computers from single and isolated components this was usually transistors wired one at a time.

The first microprocessor to make it into a personal computer was the Intel 8080 chip released in 1974 and had 8 bits of processing power. ... The most common form of computer memory is DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) this type of RAM uses one transistor and one capacitor combined together to make a single memory cell, which holds a single bit of data. ... The problem was overcome by placing the memory chips and all supporting components onto a separate PCB that is plugged into a memory bank on the mother board. ...

Hard Drive
Hard disks otherwise known as hard drives are not just confined to the home or office computer environments. ... At the drive or operating system level sectors are usually grouped in clusters. ...

Power supply
The power supply unit (PSU) first task is to convert the alternating current (AC) from a household power supply to a direct current (DC) that the computer can use its next task is lower the voltage of the current to such a level that the individual components such as CD-ROM and motherboard can handle it. ...

In modern computers the computer is turned on and off by a 5 volt signal being sent to the power supply this is either done from a push button on the computer its self or a signal from the operating system. And a constant 5 volts is always running through the motherboard even when the computer is switched off this is to allow the PSU to receive the 5 volts power on command. ... This conversion enables a small, lightweight transformer in the power supply to do the actual voltage step-down from 240 volts to the voltage needed by the particular computer component. ... Assess the different requirements for two different types of system

Server
A server needs to be far more powerful than a standard desktop computer this is because it is in constant demand by other computers on the network.
