CD Piracy
CD Piracy is creating CD’s and/or selling them without the consent of the original creator. This problem has developed as a result of the internet, where music files, after being loaded onto the computer from a store-bought CD, can be transferred from one computer to another at no cost. Once the contents of a music CD is loaded onto a computer, each song becomes its own file. ... Newer computers with the capability to put virtually any file on a CD has escalated music CD piracy even more. CD Piracy is a growing problem for record companies and consumers as technology advances.
A CD-R, or Compact Disc-Recordable, is a blank disc that holds files from a computer. To put files on a blank disc a CD burner, or CD-RW drive, is needed. The burner uses a laser that creates bumps and ridges on a blank CD. The bumps and ridges are read by a weaker laser, one that is not capable of altering a CD, such as one is a personal CD player.
Everything from data, games, music, and movies can be put on blank CD’s. CD-RW’s are basically the same except the contents of a CD-RW can be changed after it has already been recorded on.
