The concepts of Performance Support, Knowledge Management, Information Management and Performance Centered Design affect how I perform the tasks that make up my job. From our course readings, I have established a definition distinguishing between knowledge management (KM) and information management (IM). Information management often uses technology to organize, store and allow accessibility of information. ... Brian Newman states that knowledge management is not a “technology thing” or a “computer thing”. He believes that knowledge management is the entire process including the discovery and creation of knowledge, dissemination of knowledge and the utilization of knowledge. This is a great idea to get students interested in reading more because they seem to enjoy this knowledge based – high interest books, but the problem lies with the different style of learners. ... Knowledge Management is an important tool, which helps assure that people (worker and management) are not continually “reinventing the wheel”. ... to compile and to make accessible the huge amounts of knowledge available within the workplace. In education, a knowledge management system would be collection of lesson plans, resources and practical experiences in a collaborative environment. Such a system would allow teachers to access the knowledge of professionals from other schools, provinces or even on a global perspective. ... Teachers have always been knowledge managers but we haven’t organized and shared our collective knowledge to meet our performance support needs like businesses have. A tremendous amount of resources are being put into Knowledge Management by business organizations: new hardware, personnel dedicated to gathering and organizing knowledge, new software in the form of group-ware, not to mention managerial time being put into the process. |
