Today we are living in a kaleidoscopic confluence of technology; e-commerce is an example. Crossing the horizon, the modern world has gone digital and there is no moving back. Once a novelty, e-commerce is transforming our lives and within no time it has brought the world closer so that many people are using it. Touch wood Gems Furniture shop has existed for the past fifty years. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Richards started the company with their small shop at Rue Leclezio at Curepipe. However with time the small shop has developed into a large furniture firm to be able to cope with the great demand of the growing population. Nowadays Touch Gems Wood furniture shops can be seen at different parts of Mauritius, moreover the of the Richards’ company have become known worldwide due to its high quality products However to meet the demand of international customers we have decide to create a website where mauritians as well as international customers can do their shopping. This e-commerce site is a different sales medium. It encircles three types of business transactions namely: Business-to-Business E-commerce Business Supply Chain E-commerce Business-to-Consumer E-commerce Business-to-Business E-commerce involves: v Exchange between two businesses v For example: The manager of a big furniture company orders television sets from a renowned supplier. v High volume items and low price margins (think about buying in bulk!) v Also called B2B Business Supply Chain E-commerce involves: v Improving delivery of goods between suppliers and customers. v For example one supplier tends to be the customer of another supplier. v Applications such as Stock control, just in time delivery, transportation and ware house management. Business-to-Consumer E-commerce involves: v exchange between consumer and business v For example: A customer orders a piece of furniture from a online furniture shop. v Low volume at higher prices v Also called B2C The Touch Wood Gems is aimed at being a very dynamic, easy navigation, good interface and user friendly to help web surfers who are inexperienced in informatics to surf appropriately.
