Electronic Assessment in Education
Assessment in education. In order to fully understand what this means, we must first understand what is meant by the terms “assessment” and “education.” Education is defined as the process by which people’s abilities and talents are developed. In a broad sense, education is everything that is learned and acquired in a lifetime, including skills, habits, knowledge, interests, attitudes, and personality. In a narrow sense, education is the systematic, organized process of teaching and learning. Assessment is defined as the process of gathering, evaluating, and using information. Assessment in education, then, refers to gathering, evaluating, and using information that is taught or learned. As educators, assessment refers to the collection, evaluation, and use of information to aid in classroom decisions.
With the implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act, educators are being forced to re-evaluate the long accepted concepts of accountability and assessment, as well as the role of technology, in our public schools.
