GIS A powerful Technology
GIS, which stands for Geographical Information Systems, is a computer-based tool used for mapping and analyzing geographic phenomenon that exist, and events that occur on Earth. ... In much more simple terms, GIS can be regarded as the high-tech equivalent of a map.
In the past, GIS programs were only available for large mainframe computers (the traditional big iron machines or computers during the 1970’s). Due to technological advances, it has made GIS accessible to desktop computers commonly found in homes and offices. Today, GIS is a multi-billion-dollar industry employing hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. GIS is widely used both in industry and as a research tool by nearly every academic discipline at the university level.
