Information Security
Information security is the process of protecting data from accidental or intentional misuse by persons inside or outside of an organization. An information security incident can be any event such as website defacement, a computer virus, inadvertently disclosed employee password, a sabotaged customer database by a former employee, or action of corporate spies that breaches the organization’s information security safeguards. Even though it is a risk from the security point of view, organizations need to let customers, suppliers, distributors, employees, and other business partners access data electronically in today’s competitive business environment. Information security is about balancing these risks with the positive outcomes of doing business electronically. Since risks and vulnerabilities are constantly changing, security is a never-ending process, which must be a part of organization’s every business action.
