Investigating Computer Based Learning Tools:
About computer based learning:
As computers and the internet grow more popular every minute of the day, along does computer based learning (CBL). ...
Here are some points that state why CBL is so popular:
• It has been stimulated by the extraordinary growth of the Internet, and in particular, the World Wide Web
• The boost in power of desktop and home computers
• New hardware products that enable the widespread use of multimedia
• Appeals to parents – they can work from home
• Suitable for students that work unsociable hours and cannot get to college for lessons
I have decided to cover three CBL tools in this report. These three tools are:
PowerPoint, Dream weaver and Hot Potatoes
PowerPoint
Delivery:
PowerPoint is a useful tool for producing multimedia presentation materials combining text with images, sound, and links to the Web. While most of PowerPoints features are designed for delivering presentations from a computer, the program can also be used to produce slides for an OHP, and handouts.
Issues for teaching with PowerPoint
PowerPoint is a useful tool for CBL, though it is most valuable when presentations are delivered on a computer. ... The size of the font will depend on the size of the room/or computer screen being used. ...
• Requires more mouse-clicking than other similar quiz applications
Dreamweaver, and web based learning:
Using Dreamweaver for web based learning offers flexible access via the www or CD rom, flexible updates, it reduces costs and increases mobility as users do not have to be online all of the time. ...
You can work in a visual design based way, or use the built in code editing features to work by hand if that is what you prefer. ...
Dreamweaver as a tool for computer based learning
A time-honored goal of any form of instruction—traditional or computer-based—is to activate learners. There are many ways to activate computer-based learners, ranging from problem-solving assignments to participation in online communities. One of the most effective ways to activate learners is to create learning materials that encourage exploration and/or respond to user actions. ...
FEATURE - CourseBuilder for macromedia extensions
The CourseBuilder for Dreamweaver MX Extension is the most popular Macromedia learning extension. It accelerates the instructional development process with more than 40 pre-scripted learning interactions, quiz and assessment templates, and the ability to track results to a learning management system or database such as Lotus LearningSpace, using an AICC communication (instead of ADL SCORM).
Macromedia CourseBuilder Interactions
Macromedia CourseBuilder Interactions let you define a complete web-based learning interaction. ... The wizard creates editable HTML, DHTML, and JavaScript based on the information that you enter. CourseBuilder extends the Macromedia Dreamweaver MX HTML editing functions by generating logic-based objects that interact with users, as well as external computer-managed instruction (CMI) applications that track and score user input.
