1. Naturalism mainly focuses on the struggling lower class. Characters in a book based on naturalism are poorly educated and have a tedious time searching for work and receiving pay. They don’t have the luxuries of comfort, lavishing homes, or any type of technology. Adequately providing for a family is nearly impossible without undergoing sacrifices. It is typical for women, even children to work in order to survive. Free will or choice is intangible in the type of situations the characters face. The lower class man is looked down upon and is given no respect. Life is perceived as a losing battle which can only be ended by death. Days are spent slaving over mediocre work and nights are filled with inevitable unhappiness.
